The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today raised a fresh alarm over an alleged plot to assassinate some of its popular and most visible chieftains by political opponents.
A pressure group within the PDP, Arise Kwara, which raised the alarm after an emergency meeting of the group on Saturday, said that it has stumbled on a “sinister plan by elements of destruction in the state to murder some of our leaders in the PDP.”
“It is in view of this that we are raising this public alarm not only to the security agencies, who have since been notified of the source of the threat, but also to all members of the public, so that they would not be caught off guard…”
In a statement released to the media and made available via email to E-kwara on Saturday by its chairman, Dr. Bolaji Oloriegbe, the group said that the ‘growing popularity of the PDP and its chieftains in the state have been a “source of worry to some entrenched interests in the state. They have therefore mapped out strategies to take out some of the PDP’s best brains ahead of the 2015 elections”
The group, which refused to disclose either its source or the brain behind the assassination plot, said it has since notified relevant security agencies, the President and the national leadership of the PDP of the plot. It vowed to resist the alleged plot ‘with the last drop of our blood.”
“We will not stand by while the situation degenerates. We will ensure that their evil plan does not come to plan.”
“We assure members of the public that what happened in the cases of late Mohammed Lawal, Gen. Abdulkareem Adisa, late Baba Kasum and Hamman Pategi does not repeat itself this time around. We are equally battle ready. This time, we will show that no one has the monopoly of violence.”
“If however the security agencies look the other way, while the evil plot is being hatched and executed, we shall not hesitate to take the battle to door steps of the suspected assailants.”
In the meantime, the group disclosed that its next line of action is to march to the Emir’s palace and the national secretariat of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressives Union (IEDPU) to press home its public alert.
“We don’t want to be caught off balance; we don’t want to be accused of sleeping when fire was observed on our rooftop, that’s why we are warning now that should anything happen to Sen. Gbemisola Saraki, Simeon Ajibola, Ajadi Professor Oba Abdulraheem, Mr. Dele Belgore (SAN) within now and 2015, and even thereafter, we already know where it is coming from and we shall not take it lightly with them.”
