The relative peace of the ever bustling Ilorin Central Market was shattered today as a team of trigger happy police officers gunned down two persons within the vicinity of the iconic Ilorin Central Mosque, Ilorin, Kwara State. E-kwara gathered that trouble started around 11:40a.m. today, when a Police patrol van was pursuing the driver of a car for traffic offence. In hot pursuit, the police officers shot into the air with a view to forcing the embattled driver of the vehicle to stop. An eyewitness said the victims were walking by the Ilorin Central Mosque before they were hit by the police stray bullets. The incident led to the immediate closure of the UBA bank nearby while the area was also deserted as people scampered into safety. The trigger-happy policemen disappeared from the scene immediately. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Agboola Oshodi-Glover, confirmed the incident, adding that the victims have been taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. As at the time of filling this report, E-kwara could not immediately ascertain whether the shot victims are still alive or dead. Oshodi-Glover however gave an assurance that the matter would be investigated.
